International driving document is a legal translation of national driver’s license.  It’s merely confirms that you hold a valid license in your home country.

No. The IDD is a non-official and non-governmental document and it does not substitute your state-issued driver’s license or photo ID. This supplementary document simply acts as a translation and digital storage of your valid national driver’s license. This is not the IDP of AAA or AATA, these booklets are issued by governmental agencies or private organizations designated by a country’s government and these are the only official translation of a person’s driver’s license.

You can buy insurance for your International license when applying. That means that in case you lost your IDD or it was stolen you will get a copy of your International license free of charge, with same shipping method you paid the first time.

The free USPS option allows delivery to P.O. Boxes and APO addresses, however, FedEx / DHL does not.
